Kampong Thom Province: is one of the provinces that located at the central
point of Cambodia. If we drive from Phnom Penh to there, we take a time
approximately 168 km by 6th National Road. This has a total-land area 13,814 square
kilometers, and the border is round by some provinces such as: Siem Reap province
to the northwest, Preah Vihear province to the north, Stung Treng province to
the northeast, Kratie province to the east, Kampong Cham province & Kampong
Chhnang province to the south and the Tonle Sap to the west. Its capital is
Kampong Thom, and the town on the bank of the Stung Sen River.
Kampong Thom Province is the second largest province.
And there are a number of the resorts such as: Prasat Sambor Prei Kuk, and
Prasat Andet Temple.
Note: The original of the Kampong Thom is Kampong Pous
Thom. Because the persons were living around this area usually saw the big
snakes every Buddhist holiday, a long years after that, the snakes disappeared,
and they called it that Kampong Pous Thom. Then, they called it in the name as
Kampong Thom to up present.
The province is subdivided into 8 districts:
1/. 0601: Baray.
2/. 0602: Kampong Svay.
3/. 0603: Stung Sen.
4/. 0604: Prasat Balang.
5/. 0605: Prasat Sambour.
6/. 0606: Sandan.
7/. 0607: Santuk.
8/. 0608: Stoung.
